QUESTION OF THE WEEK Q: I want to be accepted for a mortgage in the near future, how can I improve my credit score so I can access the best mortgage deals? Bob, via email. MSE Karl's A: Getting the best mortgage deal doesn't just depend on your credit score, but it certainly helps if you can boost it - for full help, see our Boost Your Mortgage Chances guide. To help with your credit score ensure you are on the electoral roll, pay all bills on time and minimise new credit applications. It's worth signing up to MSE's free Credit Club, which gives you your Experian credit file, credit hit rate, and credit and affordability scores. That way you can check how you're doing and spot any errors. Also see how to check reports from other credit agencies for free. Please suggest a question of the week (we can't reply to individual emails). |
